I played troubled genius Felix Humble in this marvellous play about
family relationships, astrophysics and bee-keeping. It was good to
get my teeth into a nice meaty acting role again, and to draw on
elements of my own life in creating what I hoped was a more rounded,
believable character. The production had some good reviews (though a
very flattering mention of my performance was sadly cut from later
editions of the Coventry Evening Telegraph) and the
ensemble cast of six were a happy and gifted team.
Left to right are Felix (me) and Jim the gardener (Richard Baker).
I attempt to explain superstring theory to Mercy Lott (Kate Washer)
while Jim looks on.
Getting into character. Emily Woodward took this pic (with her
phone!) of me absorbing the atmosphere of Bob Teers’ beautiful
garden set before the audience arrived for the final performance.
