Ah, those student haircuts. My first venture into student drama was
in the minor role of Carter in Edward Bond’s wonderful period
comedy The Sea; this company photo was taken on the steps
of the University of Warwick Arts Centre. That’s me, top right,
with lank hair covering the ears and some particularly nasty NHS
specs.
Several people in this photo have gone on to successful stage and
screen careers. The guy with the moustache in the centre of the back
row is Jonathan Linsley, who played Ivy’s nephew Milburn (aka
Crusher) in Last of the Summer Wine for several years in
the 1980s, and has recently appeared in the Pirates of the
Caribbean films; and lower left is Di Botcher, whose stage work
includes appearances at the National Theatre and the Royal Court and
who now appears regularly on sketch shows like Little
Britain and Tittybangbang.
